Bioelectric Pain Therapy for Patients

Axomera® is a CE-marked Class IIa medical device for bioelectric pain therapy. Treatment is performed by licensed physicians in certified practices across Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

What is Axomera®?

Axomera® uses precise direct-current fields delivered transepithelialy via fine probes into the tissue. The therapy aims to modulate disrupted bioelectric signalling processes in tissue — without systemic agents, without heat, without surgical intervention.

How does a treatment session work?

1. Medical examination and localisation of the symptomatic area.

2. Positioning of the Axomera® probes at the treatment area.

3. Treatment session (approx. 30 minutes). The device delivers the individually configured direct-current field.

4. Documentation and progress assessment by the physician after each session.

For which conditions is Axomera® suitable?

Axomera® is used for a wide range of orthopaedic and pain-medicine indications, including: chronic back pain, shoulder and neck complaints, tennis elbow (epicondylitis), carpal tunnel syndrome, knee pain (patellar tendon), Achilles tendinopathy, heel spurs, peripheral neuropathies and to support wound healing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the treatment hurt?

The treatment is generally not perceived as painful. Axomera® uses very fine probes and an undulating direct-current field below the pain threshold; many patients describe the session as calming.

What does a typical treatment series look like?

Individual courses vary. Some patients report changes during the first session, while others develop a response only after several treatments. A first assessment is usually possible after 2–3 sessions.

How many sessions are typical?

In many cases 4–6 sessions are recommended. The exact number depends on the condition, its duration and how you respond individually.

Will the costs be reimbursed?

Private health insurers and supplementary policies often reimburse the therapy in full or in part. You will receive a transparent overview before treatment begins.

Are there any side effects?

Axomera® is generally well tolerated. A short feeling of warmth or brief redness at the treatment site can occur immediately after a session.

Can I go back to work right after a session?

Typically yes. A session takes about 30 minutes and usually no downtime is expected. Please discuss intensive sport or heavy physical activity on the same day with your practice.

What should I keep in mind before and after a session?

So that the painful area can be located precisely, please avoid taking pain medication shortly before the session. Cortisone should be avoided before and after treatment — please discuss any such medication with your practice in advance.

Can Axomera® be combined with other therapies?

Yes. Axomera® combines well with acupuncture, physiotherapy, manual therapy and physical therapy. Injections during the same session are possible, provided they do not contain cortisone.
